Given a lecture at the JSCNP Clinical Trial Ethics Education Seminar
Representative Sugimoto spoke at the 2024 Clinical Trials – Ethics Education Seminar at the 54th Japanese Society of Psychoneuropharmacology and the 34th Japanese Society of Clinical Psychoneuropharmacology Joint Annual Meeting.
In a talk entitled “Clinical Trials and Ethical Considerations for Pediatric and Adolescent Patients,” he spoke about research ethics, conflicts of interest (COI), issues with drugs used in children, and informed consent and informed assent for minors. He also spoke about ethical issues and countermeasures in research involving children, using examples such as a study on medication guidance by pharmacists conducted at the Department of Psychiatry, Niigata University School of Medicine, a magnetoencephalography (MEG) study on gaze recognition in autism spectrum disorders, an international collaborative study on bullying prevention and intervention, and the creation of the AMED project “Guidelines for Drug Treatment of Child and Adolescent Mental Disorders” led by Professor Kazuhiko Nakamura of Hirosaki University.
