Off-site lectures
As we have received inquiries, we will start a service where psychologists and psychiatrists from Counseling Office VISION will visit you and give lectures on trauma treatment, counseling, and mental health. This can be used in a variety of situations, such as as a mental health measure or employee benefit for companies, or as a lecture for teachers and students at schools. Please feel free to use it. The time, fee, and content of the lectures are as follows. ・Lecture on a single theme. 1 hour, 30,000 yen. ・Lecture on 1-2 themes. 2 hours, 50,000 yen. ・Combination of lectures and group work on multiple themes. 5 hours, 100,000 yen. We can talk about the following themes. Given a lecture at the JSCNP Clinical Trial Ethics Education Seminar
Representative Sugimoto spoke at the 2024 Clinical Trials - Ethics Education Seminar at the 54th Japanese Society of Psychoneuropharmacology and the 34th Japanese Society of Clinical Psychoneuropharmacology Joint Annual Meeting. In a talk entitled "Clinical Trials and Ethical Considerations for Pediatric and Adolescent Patients," he spoke about research ethics, conflicts of interest (COI), issues with drugs used in children, and informed consent and informed assent for minors. He also spoke about ethical issues and countermeasures in research involving children, using examples such as a study on medication guidance by pharmacists conducted at the Department of Psychiatry, Niigata University School of Medicine, a magnetoencephalography (MEG) study on gaze recognition in autism spectrum disorders, an international collaborative study on bullying prevention and intervention, and the creation of the AMED project "Guidelines for Drug Treatment of Child and Adolescent Mental Disorders" led by Professor Kazuhiko Nakamura of Hirosaki University. https://jsnpcnp.com/jscnp-seminar-2/

We welcomed a new member to our office
We welcomed a new member, Dr. Zain Ekachaeryanti, to our office this May. Dr. Eka was an Indonesian international student and a graduate student in the Department of Psychiatry at Niigata University Graduate School of Medical and Dental Sciences. She received her PhD (medicine) this March and was appointed as a researcher and faculty member (specially appointed assistant professor) in April. Dr. Eka has eight years of clinical experience as a doctor and psychiatrist in her home country, and has the certification in Traumatic Stress Studies from the Trauma Research Foundation by Dr. Bessel van der Kolk. She advocates trauma care and mindfulness healing on SNS, and has an amazing 124,000 followers across Asia. Dr. Eka can provide treatment in English and Indonesian. VISION also offers online treatment, so even if you live outside Niigata Prefecture, or in Japan or Asia*, you can receive treatment online. Nishio Kazumi Pioneer Grant
As we have been announcing on social media, Director Nawa, who applied as a director of the NPO Niigata Trauma Treatment Association, was selected for the first Nishio Kazumi Pioneer Grant from the Alliant Educational Foundation (AEF). On Monday, May 13th, the grant (7,000 dollars = approx. 1 million yen) was finally transferred to the NPO Niigata Trauma Healing Association! In the 1990s, Dr. Nishio Kazumi noticed that there were significant gaps in Japan's mental health treatment and care system and was shocked by the fact that people were being exposed to stigma without receiving appropriate treatment and care. In the hope of changing this situation by enabling more people in Japan to receive American clinical psychology education, understand the effects of trauma and stigma, and be able to provide appropriate psychotherapy, Dr. Nishio opened the CSPP Japan branch together with Dr. Saito Manabu. This grant is a new grant to support the practical psychology activities of those who have graduated from AIU/CSPP (Alliant International University California School of Clinical Psychology) Japan, which the Nishio Kazumi Clinical Psychology Foundation manages. It supports the efforts of CSPP graduates to fill gaps in the Japanese mental health system. At the CSPP Japan graduation ceremony, Dr. Nishio often said that before lamenting that there are no places to practice psychology or that one cannot find a job, one should develop it themselves and be a "pioneer." Following those words, the grant was named the Pioneer Grant. Founding Anniversary Lecture Held
We invited Toshiro Sugiyama, our representative's mentor, to hold a commemorative lecture on Saturday, March 23, 2024, to mark the founding of Counseling Office VISION and the Niigata Trauma Treatment Association, a non-profit organization. Thank you very much to everyone who attended. Dr. Toshiro Sugiyama is one of Japan's leading child psychiatrists and trauma therapists. He has written many books and appeared on NHK. During his lecture, he taught us many things, including various treatment techniques, specific methods for using the TS protocol, and the fact that children today have many traumas, both minor and major. We have received permission from Professor Toshiro Sugiyama to distribute the archived video and handouts, and are currently editing them. Today, at the House of Representatives Health, Labor, and Welfare Committee, Yuki Waseda, a member of the Constitutional Democratic Party of Japan, pointed out the need for subsidies for trauma treatment. I was encouraged by her accurate and precise assessment of the necessity of what we are trying to do. Trauma treatment has been a hot topic since it was added to this year's revision of medical fee payments. I hope that the need for subsidies for trauma treatment will be further discussed and that understanding will spread among the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare, the nation, and society as a whole.
